“In Memory of my late parents on the 68th Anniversary of our company – QQQ (written 8 September 1992)
My father, Quan Hong (also known as Augustine Quan) was born on 5 October 1905, at 10am – on the 5th day of the 10th moon – if original text refers to Lunar Calendar.
He left China on 3rd July 1924 for Solomon Islands via Hong Kong and Sydney. In October of the same year, he arrived in Tulagi, the former capital of Solomon Islands. In 1927, he moved to Gizo, Western Solomons to set up a business to set up a business with two of his friends, Mr. Chow Kin and Mr. Chan Kun.
In his life time, my father always upheld his belief in hard work, honesty, good efficient management and willingly helped others. He sent his hard earned savings home to my grandfather in support of his livelihood and education in excess of twelve family members, many of whom he brought to the Solomons. His help was also extended to many family and friends who now live comfortably abroad. It will be for me and my brothers and sisters and future generations to follow as a family tradition the noble act and principles of my late father.
My mother, Mary Woo, was kind, straight forward, honest and generous lady. She supported and encouraged the noble principles of my father as is apparent through her actions. Her esteemed character, as acclaimed by all who knew her, is for us to remember and follow.
In loving memory of my parents, let us learn and practice charity.
The virtue of benevolence is a blessing.
